Prague Startup Ecosystem: Companies, Investors and the Tech Cluster Behind Czechia's Scaleups

Prague is the most visible centre of Czechia's startup economy. Many of the country's best-known software and consumer technology companies were founded in the capital or built significant teams there, while venture funds, accelerators, universities and multinational technology employers reinforce the talent pool.

The result is a flywheel rather than a simple list of startups. Employees move between scaleups, founders become investors, international companies train specialists, and successful teams create alumni who launch the next generation of businesses.

The company base is increasingly diverse

Prague's technology profile spans enterprise software, hospitality technology, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, gaming and development services. Productboard, Mews, Rossum, Rohlik and STRV represent very different business models.

That diversity matters because it reduces dependence on one technology cycle. A city whose startup economy is built around several exportable specialisms is better positioned to retain technical talent through changes in venture funding conditions.

Capital and experienced operators reinforce each other

CzechInvest's ecosystem data shows a national network of more than 650 mapped investors, although not all are based in Prague. The capital benefits from being the place where many investors, founders and professional-service providers meet most frequently.

The harder test is follow-on capital. Czechia's 2026 investor surveys have pointed to weaker new-investor activity, so Prague's next stage depends partly on connecting strong local companies with deeper international pools of growth funding.

Prague should be measured by repeat outcomes

Counting startups tells only part of the story. A more useful measure is whether the city repeatedly produces companies that reach international revenue, raise later rounds, create exits and seed new founder networks.
