Semiconductor policy can easily become a contest of headline factory subsidies. Czechia's more realistic opportunity is broader: building a dense ecosystem of design, research, specialist suppliers, advanced materials, engineering talent and selected manufacturing activities that plug into Europe's chip supply chain.
Czech Semicon Days 2026, which CzechInvest said significantly advanced the domestic ecosystem, reflected that approach. The programme connected Czech participants with international semiconductor companies and expanded geographically into Brno and Ústí nad Labem.
Brno remains a natural anchor
Brno's electronics, microscopy, research and engineering base gives the region a credible role in the semiconductor value chain even without a leading-edge mega-fab. The more defensible cluster strategy is to compound capabilities that already exist rather than chase every segment of chip production.
That includes university research, equipment, testing, design and the supplier relationships required by international manufacturers. Each additional specialist investor can strengthen the economics for the next one.
Ústí shows the supply chain is wider than chip design
The May announcement that Taiwan's i-TRANS Global planned a European logistics centre for semiconductor chemicals in the Ústí region is a useful example. Chip ecosystems require high-purity materials, logistics and handling capabilities alongside engineers and cleanrooms.
Those less glamorous layers can create durable industrial positions because qualification standards and customer relationships are difficult to reproduce quickly.
The test is whether coordination produces investment
Events are useful only if they convert into supplier contracts, R&D projects, hiring and capital expenditure. Czechia has now built more formal coordination through CzechInvest, the national semiconductor cluster and the Czech Semiconductor Centre.
The next stage is execution: attracting projects that fit Czech strengths while making it easier for domestic suppliers and researchers to enter European semiconductor programmes. That is a more credible route to relevance than measuring success by fab announcements alone.
