Which Czech Regions Have the Highest GDP per Person?

Prague's GDP per person reached CZK 1.568 million in 2024, more than double the Czech national average of CZK 740,195. The gap reflects the capital's concentration of headquarters, finance, technology, professional services, government and high-value business activity.

Regional GDP should not be read as household income. Commuters can create output in Prague while living elsewhere, and corporate profits recorded in the capital can lift GDP without flowing directly into local wages.

Prague's lead is structural

The capital benefits from sectors that generate high value added per worker and from its role as the administrative and corporate centre of the country. CZSO data put Prague at 192% of the EU average for GDP per person in 2024.

That makes Prague unusually wealthy by the standard regional GDP measure even within Central Europe. It also explains why office costs, wages and competition for skilled workers are different from most other Czech regions.

Regional growth was stronger elsewhere

The fastest real GDP growth in 2024 was recorded in the Pardubický Region at 4.1% and the Olomoucký Region at 4.0%. Four regions contracted, with the Jihočeský Region recording the largest decline at 0.8%.

This is why level and growth should be separated. Prague is the richest region by output per person, but a smaller region can grow much faster in a given year when industrial investment or local demand improves.

Location decisions need more than GDP

For employers, regional GDP is a starting point rather than a location score. Labour supply, universities, transport links, industrial land, energy connections and wage costs can matter more for a specific project.

Brno and South Moravia, for example, have a technology and research profile that is not captured fully by a single GDP-per-capita ranking. Manufacturing regions can also offer supplier depth that Prague cannot.
